In last night's memo, Bill cited McCain's vote on alternative fuels, so I did some fact checking, turns out that it was a strict party line vote, so if McCain is being disingenous so are the rest of the Republicans up on the Hill who want the comprehensive approach. I think Bill misses the point, at the end of the day it really does not matter what his past votes were, as long as we believe his plans for the future, and he is being honest about the future. The same can't be said of Obama for obvious reasons. If it were about votes, McCain would have changed his mind on ANWR too, after all, more than 50% want drilling in Alaska. When McCain changed his position on Offshore drilling, the polls in favor of offshore drilling were the same as it is now, for drilling in ANWR, so why is he not changing on ANWR ?. Also the price of gas at that time was greater than 4.00 dollars. So, the point here is, why does one change positions, is it purely for political reasons, or is it for a combination of political expediency and honesty. I think in McCain's case it is the latter, and in Obama's case it is the former, but I could be wrong.
